Modem Test

There are several ways to test to see if your modem is installed correctly. The first and easiest is best for Windows 95/98/2000 computers. The second will work for all windows computers including NT.

THE FIRST
Go to Control Panel/Modems and choose the Diagnostics tab. You will see your modem listed next to the COM port it is connected to. Click on the COM port next to your modem and choose More Info in the middle of the screen. If everythng works correctly you will see a screen similar to the one below. If you do not then your modem is not installed correctly. Your modem must be installed correctly to get on the Internet.

THE SECOND
Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications/Hyper Terminal. When you open Hyper Terminal it will prompt you for a name of the Profile. Give it a name such as "Test" and click OK. Then choose your modem as the device to connect to. Leave the phone number blank and click Cancel. This will put you on the main screen of Hyper Terminal. Type in the letters "AT" and press ENTER. You should get a response OK. It should look similar to:
